The Cameroon Project
- Cameroon is slightly bigger than California, with a population of approximately 14 million.
- The country is 55 percent French speaking and 35 percent English with the remaining speaking 24 languages.
- It is centrally located in the west coast of the African continent.
- The AIDS epidemic in Cameroon has had a devastating effect on the economy. Recent statistics show 40 percent of the population is infected with the AIDS virus. Because of the large amount of deaths associated with the AIDS virus, many children are left behind without anyone to take care of them.
- The Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC), with 42 clinics and 3 major hospitals has implemented many programs of AIDS prevention. They also have a program to care for some of the orphans resulted from losing parents to AIDS (Chosen Children Program).
